The Festivities of San Andrés is a traditional celebration in the village of San Andrés, on the island of El Hierro, and forms part of the journey of the Virgen de los Reyes during the Bajada, a quadrennial event in honor of the island’s patron saint. The residents of San Andrés have the unique privilege of welcoming the Virgin on three occasions: during her descent to Valverde, on her return to La Dehesa during the Subida, and during the Fiesta of San Andrés itself—a privilege granted in 1941. During this festivity, the Virgin is received in Jinama and accompanied by dancers, musicians, and devotees in a procession that moves through the village streets, including La Cancela and Jarera, until reaching the Plaza de la Maestra Teresa Cándida. There, attendees share traditional local products such as cheese, grapes, plums, and gofio, in an atmosphere of community and devotion.
