Descent of La Virgen de Los Reyes

Every four years the Bajada de la Virgen de los Reyes is celebrated from her sanctuary in La Dehesa, in the south of the island of El Hierro, to the village of Valverde, which is in the north. This civic-religious event begins on the first Saturday in July. There is an impressive display of music and colour in the Dehesa, and 10 to 15 hours later the transfer of the Virgin begins, on a wooden chair with a platform called a "coso", like those used in the Middle Ages.
