Ascent of Virgen de Los Reyes

The Día de la Subida is a traditional celebration on the island of El Hierro that marks the return of the Virgen de los Reyes to her sanctuary in La Dehesa, thus concluding the festive period that began with the Bajada. This event takes place every four years, on the first Saturday of August, and represents the fulfillment of the Vow made by the people of El Hierro in 1741. During the day, the image of the Virgin travels along the Camino de la Virgen, passing through the same "rayas" and resting points as on the Día de la Bajada, although with some variations in the route, such as skipping the passage through Malpaso, to ensure that the final stretch, the descent of El Cres, is completed during daylight.
