Titular

The Canary Islands are a consolidated destination with extensive experience backed by several decades of tourist activity. Since the 1960s, the islands have welcomed millions of tourists of different nationalities who have found, in this Atlantic archipelago blessed by the best climate in the world, somewhere to enjoy their holidays with all of the quality guarantees in infrastructures and services.

In addition to being a safe destination, the Canary Islands have always been characterised by their hospitality and their capacity to welcome everybody, no matter who they are. They have also managed to adapt to satisfy the particular needs of different groups, so that motor or intellectual disabilities, or sight or hearing impairments do not prevent them from enjoying an all-round tourist experience.

Besides complying with existing regulations, on both a state and a local level, in relation to guaranteeing the rights of people with disabilities, the Canary Islands have always been sensitive to their needs. Especially the tourist resorts and the main towns are very conscious of eliminating physical barriers in public and private infrastructures to facilitate mobility.

Most tourist accommodation and all kinds of leisure and cultural establishments, such as restaurants, fashion outlets, theme parks, museums, theatres, concert halls, along with public toilets and pedestrian routes, and many other kinds of infrastructure, comply with accessibility requirements.

People with disabilities also have access to adapted transport for getting around. The eight airports in the Canary Islands provide a free assistance service for passengers with reduced mobility or with intellectual disabilities or hearing or sight impairments. Outside the airport terminals, the public transport on the islands includes adapted taxis and buses, and private car hire companies have adapted vehicles too, with or without a driver.

You will also find a wide range of leisure, cultural, sporting and gastronomy-related activities in the Canary Islands that adapt to the needs of people with any type of disability. The beaches in the main towns and tourist resorts have adapted access and services, both on the sand and in the sea, so that we can all enjoy a pleasant day sunbathing and relaxing swims in the crystal-clear waters of the Atlantic ocean. There are companies that organise excursions to nature spaces with visitors' centres that have resources that are suited to groups with special needs.
