La Gomera Archaeology Museum

An archaeology museum in La Gomera

On the streets of San Sebastián de La Gomera, on the east coast of the island, you will find a typical Canarian house that is home to the La Gomera Archaeology Museum. Here, visitors will get to know the secrets of the Canarian aborigines (Guanches) and unravel the mysteries of the cave paintings. There is a full scale recreation of a Guanche sacrificial alter – one of the museum’s main attractions, as well as archaeological pieces that how the first settlers to the Canaries lived.

Discover the aboriginal past of the Canaries

While a visit to the museum can be completed in under an hour, any visitor that wishes to find out more can do so courtesy of the information panels, in English and Spanish, detailing various aspects of the economic traditions of the island and the spiritual nature of the aborigines. The exhibition is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday and there are guided tours available every morning, although you should book this in advance.
