Temporary Exhibition: The islands

"Las Islas" is a multimedia installation created by Elo Vega and Rogelio López Cuenca, to be exhibited at the Casa de la Cultura in Arrecife between February and April 2025. The work uses mannequins, shirts, and synchronized videos to critically explore the contemporary tourism industry and its connection to colonial fantasies of discovery and absolute dominance. Through interventions on Hawaiian shirts, incorporating historical scenes of the encounter between Europe and the Americas, the installation highlights differences in clothing and attitudes, emphasizing the relationship of subjugation of the "Other," often represented by Indigenous women, in contrast to European men.
