The Gran Canaria Wind Orchestra opens its new concert season under the direction of José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana with a program inspired by painting. The concert, titled 'Pictures at an Exhibition,' features the renowned work of Russian composer Igor Mussorgsky, arranged by José Schyns. This piece, inspired by ten paintings from a posthumous exhibition of the artist Viktor Hartmann, was composed by Mussorgsky as a tribute to his friend, aiming to "paint in music" the exhibited works. The program also includes two pieces by the renowned Dutch composer Johan de Meij, likewise inspired by painting. The Gran Canaria Wind Orchestra, composed of distinguished musicians from the Canary Islands who have come together to achieve interpretative excellence, includes all wind instruments, percussion, cellos, and double basses, offering a rich blend of textures and timbres.
