Fiesta del agua

A very unique festival known as the ‘Traída del Agua’ (Bringing the Water) takes place in Telde. Originally, this celebration was closely linked to the practice of ‘invoking rain’. Over time however, it has evolved into a lively water festival. Participants soak each other with buckets of water, water pistols and other ingenious devices to drench each other.

The event includes a merry walk to the irrigation canal and the basilica of the Virgin. Fun is guaranteed along the way with the constant water battles and the infectious dances to the rhythm of the town's band. The water festival usually takes place on the weekend following Las Nieves day, always on the first or second Sunday of August. It's a refreshing and joyful experience that marks the calendar for the residents of Telde.
