Butihondo beach

A semi-urban beach where nude bathing is common

Butihondo beach is close to the Esquinzo Butihondo development, to the north of the large tourist town of Morro Jable. It’s a semi-urban beach spanning almost three kilometres, divided into different sections, which allow large areas of seclusion and tranquillity even though you are in a tourist zone. For this reason, the beach, situated in the south of the island, is perfect for nudist bathing in complete privacy, for sunbathing or practising a variety of water sports.

Golden sands and calm turquoise waters beside Morro Jable

Esquinzo Butihondo is a golden sand beach with peaceful blue waters. It offers a range of services allowing you spend the whole day on the beach, with sunbed and parasol hire, showers and toilets. There are a number of small bars dotted along the beach where you can eat beside the sea as well as stalls offering water sport equipment hire and classes. There is also an extensive range of hotel and apartment accommodation. The beach is very accessible, with parking facilities and a public bus service linking the beach to Morro Jable.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
  • Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats.
  • Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
  • Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants from the environment.
  • Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
  • Do not use soap or gel in the showers located at the entrance to the beach.
  • Try to use ocean-friendly sun creams.
  • Pets are prohibited at most beaches. Make sure you can take them beforehand.
  • Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.) or activities that might be bothersome, such as ball games.
