Hermigua

A wonderful setting in the middle of a ravine

This charming village in the north of La Gomera is in a wonderful setting: a beautiful ravine, the sides of which are covered in countless terraces planted with crops, creating a landscape that visitors fall in love with. Banana plantations stretching almost as far as the sea—providing a beautiful array of colours—border a beach on which a davit still stands, a witness to this village’s past. With perfect temperatures all year round, anyone visiting this fascinating paradise has the chance to enjoy a variety of open-air activities, such as hiking.

Trails all around Garajonay National Park

A network of trails starts in Hermigua and runs all around the wonderful scenery of Garajonay National Park, a protected area that is home to one of the best specimens of laurisilva in the world. We highly recommend a visit to the San Pedro District as—in addition to the convent, one of the best examples of religious buildings on the island—you can see several houses built in the traditional Canary Islands architecture and preserved since the 18th century. El Gofio Museum and The Ethnographic Museum will reveal the traditions and gastronomy of La Gomera to visitors.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Respect and look after the area's historic and cultural heritage, along with the different items of public furniture (information panels, railings, seats, lighting, etc.).
