A pretty town at the foot of the mountain

Buenavista is the last northern town in Tenerife; the road ends here, beyond which all you find is the rocky fortress of the Teno Mountains. But the charm of this northern village is not only about its stunning scenery - it was declared a site of Cultural Interest for its historic streets and for the numerous examples of small traditional houses which combine different traditional styles brought in by the Spanish conquerors.

A walk through ancient streets and plazas

Your visit should begin at the church and the Plaza de los Remedios, a meeting point for locals. Around the square you can see buildings from the 16th and 17th Centuries, which have been restored with great care and which give the town centre its stamp of individuality. In the main streets there are small tiled houses, like the Calle el Chorro, at the end of which you can find the old public laundry sites, of great ethnographic value. To finish your visit, you simply must stop by the awarding winning cake shop El Aderno.

Sustainability

- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Respect and look after the area's historic and cultural heritage, along with the different items of public furniture (information panels, railings, seats, lighting, etc.).
