Casas blancas y premios al embellecimiento
In the extreme south of Lanzarote is a town known for how well looked after and tidy it is. So it is not surprising Yaiza has won several Tidy Towns competitions. Its traditional white houses are in sharp contrast to the ochre tones and blacks of the volcanic landscape in which it finds itself, due to the eruptions of the XVIII century. This beautiful town keeps up traditions in its houses, gardens and streets full of flowers.
Monuments and tranquility in the town of Yaiza
The visitor is welcomed by the Lanzarote style architecture of the town of Yaiza, with its slightly sloping flat roofs thus so in order to collect the scarce rainwater. It boasts historical monuments such as the Benito Pérez Armas Cultural Centre with its wooden balconies and stairs. Another building of great interest is the church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios (Our Lady of Good Remedies), built as of the XVII century. Taking a stroll through its streets to discover how silent white can be is the best way to capture the magic of Yaiza.
