The charm of a rural town in El Hierro
The pretty town of El Pinar is the gateway to the south of the island. Taking the road from the capital, you will be enchanted by the countryside full of vegetable gardens and landscapes dotted with fig and almond trees. El Pinar is found on the border of large pine forests and on its lower slopes the landscape is full of rugged volcanic ravines. It’s a town where El Hierro’s traditional rural way of life continues, focused around agriculture, farming and craft making.
Rural hotels where you can disconnect in El Hierro
From the Tanajara viewing point you get terrific views of the town of El Pinar, of the southern side of El Hierro, and also what is known as “Mar de las Calmas” (the Calm Sea), a marine reserve of tranquil waters. From here you are drawn to discover more, to wander through the streets of Taibique or Las Casas, feeling the relaxed vibes and way of life that pulses there.
