Orienteering through the pine forests of El Hierro

La Hoya del Morcillo, in the centre of El Hierro, allows you to immerse yourself in magical surroundings, lush nature and great tranquillity so you can really experience every instant. This lush Canary Islands pine forest, near the little town of El Pinar, has a recreational area that is recommended as the start of the orienteering course. This is also a place where several trails cross, which is the icing on the cake for fans of hiking.

Unique areas of microrelief on El Hierro

This orienteering map, the southernmost one in all of Europe, is perhaps one of the best and fullest to be found with this type of vegetation. The moderate relief, changes in vegetation, areas with lots of detail and microrelief mean that constant, fine map reading is a must. There are very appealing and demanding routes. The little ones can also enjoy very safe courses, limited to the surroundings of the recreational area.

Sustainability

- Never leave waste of any kind in the environment, including cigarette butts. Food scraps contribute to the proliferation of rodents and feral cats that pose a serious threat to wildlife.
- Respect the animals, do not disturb or feed them. If you see any injured specimen, you can call the emergency telephone number 112. Do not pick flowers or plants either.
- Do not collect or take stones or any other element of the natural environment. Do not modify it either by stacking them to make the sadly famous "towers."
- Do not practice sports activities outside the permitted areas.
