LATEST NEWS: Coronavirus (COVID-19) here
Elephants, Monkeys, birds of pray, sea lions and so much more are at the Oasis Safari Park Fuerteventura.
Walking though the park you are morphed from the gorgeous baron volcanic landscape of Fuerteventura to a beautiful sanctuary of green botanic gardens and exotic animals many of which have been rescued from different parts of the world to be rehabilitated in enclosures that are made as best as possible to mimic their natural habitats. A day out not to missed while in Fuerteventura for all ages.
Oasis Park Fuerteventura is home to 3000 animals and Kilometers of Botanical gardens.
Rehabilitation is a big part of Oasis Safari park. Primates are sometimes taken as pets but then not be looked after and become aggressive. Primates are used to living in families and big groups but after they have been looked after as pets they would not be able to go straight back into the wild. At Safari park they are trying to form the big groups like how they naturally live to retrieve forgotten behaviors with members of their species so these animals can have stability again.
Within the park you have the opportunity to visit many different experiences. Our favorite was the Lemur experience. These mysterious little creatures come from Madagascar where they live in national parks. Their population has dropped by 80% in the last 20 years because of the destruction of their natural habitat by agricultures and poaching. Within this experience you may be jumped on and you will have many photo opportunities. You are lead into their home and asked to leave you bags in a locked area at the entrance you are allowed to take your cameras only.
The ruffed Lemurs are there just chilling and not to fussed that we are there too and look like they would rather be sunning themselves. The little lemurs are so cute and very quickly know its time to grab food given to them by the Zoo keeper taking us through the experience and will jump on anyone along the way.
The rules are the Lemurs may jump on you but you are not allowed to touch them, it was very hard to resist not touching them.
There are also many shows throughout the park at different times during the day. The highlight show for me was the amazing birds of prey, make sure you get there early to get the best seat. The show itself is awesome to see and it is located at the top and far end of the park so you get a great view of the ocean and park. The show’s host speaks in both Spanish and English. The birds are cheeky and don’t always do what the keepers wish. You get to see Hawks, Eagle owls, Barn owls, Vultures and Eagles. There was a cute little baby Hawk named Martina who still had her baby feathers.
Another favorite part was the different types of Flamingos roaming around as you walk. The Greater Flamingo are known for their pink colours they are also monogamous couples over the mating season and bring up their babies in groups.
The park is a fantastic size and you could easily spend longer than one day there. We did get to see everything in one way and I read my watch later and it said I walked 8.6 kilometers so it’s a great way to stay active and travel. If walking 8.6 Kilometers is not your thing there are many other ways to get around the park. You can catch the land Eco-train, hire small pull along carts if you have small children and bikes and mobility scooters are also available.
Along with the Lemurs, Birds of prey and other animals is the vast and exotic Botanical gardens. There are many species of Cactus, flowers, Aloe Vera from many parts of the world.
Locally in Fuerteventura they grow and you see many wild prickly pear cactus in this garden it explains there are many different species of them. There are also farms and wild Aloe Vera grown on Fuerteventura and in the garden there are many different kinds and it explains that there are over 500 different species of Aloe Vera.
The gardens could easily take half a day if you wished so. There is also a lovely little café at the end of the garden that’s perfect for a bite and a drink. What is very special about the gardens is that their main mission is conserving many endangered plants so they will be here for many others to enjoy for years to come.
The list of activities that is possible at the Oasis Park Fuerteventura is amazing, from camel safari rides, Lemurs, Sea lions, Fauna live show, parrots live show and more. So make sure you plan your day before you go so you don’t miss any of the shows you want to see, some of them only show twice in the day. Oasis Park Fuerteventura is open daily from 9am-6pm. Definitely worth a visit for the young and not so young, Have an amazing day. Please comment down below about your favorite adventure at the park.
