Verde Aurora Farm is a quiet sanctuary of Aloe Vera plants and Olive trees in a valley of gigantic volcanic mountains and rocky plains.
Verde Aurora Bio farm is a family run farm and together they create top quality products with organic farming procedures. It is an Oasis set in the middle of two of Fuerteventura’s Natural parks Malpaís Grande and Cuchillos de Vigan.
Verde Aurora started it’s life as a tomato farm three generations ago when the family brought the farm. Back then many farmers in Fuerteventura grew tomatoes but when the production of tomatoes decreased the family decided it needed to change direction and this is when Verde Aurora was born. Because they are between two natural parks they only produce organic products to respect the land around them.
With the collaboration of three generations of the family they make decisions on the best way to produce the highest quality ingredients with organic farming methods.
At Verde Aurora there are over 500 organic olive trees with three different varieties of olives, Picual and Arbequina grown and used for their two types of the most delicious olive oil and the third is grown to be eaten as whole Olives.
They process all the oil themselves on the site of the farm with a centrifugal oil extraction machine. To gain such high quality olive oil they pick the olives when they are at the optimum time for flavor.
There are other ways and different times to pick the olives to gain a large quantity of oil but this is not what this farm and family want it’s more important to them you get the best quality. This is not olive oil you would cook with, you could pop to your local supermarket for that, this is olive oil you want to savor, use on your salads or to drizzle over fresh bread. Make sure you grab a bottle for your next dinner party it will not disappoint your guests. You can taste test them all in the shop to find your favorite but if you’re like me it’s easier to just buy both.
They also have a big Aloe Vera plantation on Verde Aurora. Aloe Vera grows well in the climate of Fuerteventura, better than almost anywhere else in the world.
This clear gel of the Aloe Vera plant has been called liquid gold and has been the way to preserve beauty since ancient times and can be known as the silent healer. The Aloe Vera is organic and is used to make body creams and face creams and a few other hygiene products. These can all be tried and tested in the farm’s shop. At the moment the creams are all processed off site. With the organic Aloe Vera the family has plans to process all in house as soon as they have their laboratory set up within the year.
When you get to visit the farm make sure you allow time to walk around the grounds. You can park near the shop that sells all the produce, olive oil and Aloe Vera products.
They also sell a great selection of other products produced on this beautiful island of Fuerteventura. Products like the prickly pear jams, organic dried figs and the mojo sauces, the delicious red and green traditional sauces that go over the small Canarian salted wrinkly potatoes. You could also grab a coffee or drink and enjoy the views in the pleasant outdoor terrace to the front of the shop.
The farm is very tranquil and as you walk around you can read about what they grow there in more detail and the ways they used to get water to there plants. In the future Verde Aurora is developing a pond to attract the birds and other wild life to find a home on the farm. It is great to see and support the organic sustainable way they are developing and producing on this farm and I look forward to visiting again soon.
If this sounds amazing you can also stay here at Verde Aurora. They have four Canarian style buildings complete with pools that you can rent. It is such a beautiful quiet location it would make for a very enjoyable quiet get away just make sure you hire a car to see a few other parts of the island.
