Climbing in Anaga

The longest, most traditional routes in Tenerife

The longest, most traditional climbing routes in Tenerife are located in the north-east of the island, amongst the steep mountains and deep ravines of the Anaga Rural Park. This unique area of overwhelming natural beauty is home to rainforests and numerous rocks that bring together a hundred climbing paths. All of the routes are well equipped and have a maximum height of 250 metres. While some are suitable for intermediate levels others will challenge even the most experienced climbers.

Climb the Roque Negro

One of the most famous climbs in Anaga is the Roque Negro (Black Rock). Located in the small village that bears its name, it has two well-equipped sections and is a good quality rock. The part known as the 'dark side' - wooded and foggy - is ideal for climbing during the summer evenings. Another very popular climb, and a genuine pinnacle for expert climbers, is the Roque de Las Animas. Some routes are difficult, particularly those that merge with the Roque de En medio.
