You only need to walk through the door of a hotel to see that it is steeped in history. This is the case of La Quinta Roja, a beautiful ancestral home that survived the volcanic eruption 300 years ago in the north of Tenerife. Situated in La Libertad square, in the charming village of Garachico, it stands majestically with its beige red façade. Fibre easy chairs and king-size plants in the courtyard face a wonderful gallery made of Canary Island pine tree wood. This wood can also be found in the rooms, as well as natural fabrics. Although the hotel is charming in its entirety, it's especially advisable to spend some time relaxing with a good book in the glazed room (an old Mudejar bay window), which overlooks the Church of Santa Ana. Other things not to be missed are breakfast, when homemade cakes are served on the terrace, and good food at the local restaurants.
