A spot in south Tenerife for truly expert kitesurfers

Situated in the south of Tenerife, next to the tourist resort of El Médano, the kitesurf spot of El Cabezo beach is only suitable for experts. The seabed is made of sand and volcanic reef, and waves break both to the left and right. It’s preferable to practise at high tide or medium tide, as entry into the water is slightly easier at these times, and also because some rocks stand out along the way, which can be dangerous at low tide.

Strong winds for kitesurfing

The ideal winds for kitesurfing blow in a northerly and north-easterly direction, and these blow strongly on El Cabezo beach, reaching speeds of 45 knots. The wind is most consistent between the months of April and September, which is when there’s a noticeable increase in the sporting and surfing atmosphere in the town. Please be aware that when the sea currents are very strong, the shoreline can be dangerous.
