Fishing

for

dreams

Catching blue marlin is an enormous challenge:
the wait, the anticipation, and then, there it is. The rod bends,
the line tightens. The blue marlin is on. The battle starts,
a power duel between two determined foes. Man against the sea,
the only
untamed force of nature. The ultimate challenge.
A burst of adrenaline and the huge sense
of accomplishment when the dream comes true.

An ocean of
species
Thanks to the warm temperatures and
ocean currents
that create the
Trade Winds, the waters around the
Canary Islands
are full of a huge range of both resident and migratory marine life.
Species such as blue sharks,
barracuda, hammerheads,
makos,
wahoo and swordfish...
live around the Canary Islands throughout the year.
Others, such as the much sought
after blue marlin, bluefin tuna and white marlin migrate past the islands
.

A bill fish
feast
Blue marlin are most common in Canarian waters

May to
September
, when large schools

of prey species, such as tuna,
squid and jacks,
arrive to feed in the rich waters.

Rich
deep
waters
The volcanic origins of the Canary Islands
means that the ocean reaches depths of over
1000 metres within minutes of the shore. Here vast schools of bait fish gather and attract blue marlin and other large game species.
The deepest and best stocked areas with fish
are found off
the west coasts of
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
with
depths of up to 3,700 metres but,
above all, the coasts surrounding the islands of
La Gomera, Gran Canaria and Tenerife,
where deep sea fishing is very frequent.
