Playa Grande

The best known urban beach in Lanzarote

Playa Grande is an urban beach located in the big tourist area of Puerto del Carmen, in the south of the island of Lanzarote. This calm water beach is over a kilometre long. Of the many beaches in the area, Playa Grande is the best known given that it welcomes more visitors than any other and life in Puerto del Carmen revolves around it. Its fame is due, in part to Las Playas avenue (the Strip) which is a long waterfront promenade with a cycle lane as well as lots of shops and nightlife areas.

A golden sand beach in Puerto del Carmen with easy access

Playa Grande is so popular on the island of Lanzarote mainly because of its amazing variety of amenities, it provides showers, parking space, lifeguards and lots of sunbeds and umbrellas for hire. But above all, it is a beach with easy access for those with reduced mobility as it has got aquatic chairs, floats and nets. And that is not all! Mention has to be made of the shelter from the palm trees, the volcanic rock and areas of gardens as well as the excellent views of Los Ajaches, declared a Natural Monument.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
- Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats.
- Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
- Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants from the environment.
- Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
- Do not use soap or gel in the showers located at the entrance to the beach.
- Try to use ocean- friendly sun creams.
- Pets are prohibited at most beaches. Make sure you can take them beforehand.
- Try not to alter the peace of the environment with excessive noise (loud music, yelling, etc.) or activities that might be bothersome, such as ball games.
